8 Popular Color Ideas to Style Your Front Door.

Continuing our “curb appeal series,” this week we're tackling how to freshen up your front door for Spring. I am giving you door styles & colours and some stylish ideas when it comes to sprucing up your house numbers. If you missed it, last week I gave you 5 Décor Elements To Spruce Up Your Front Porch or Balcony For Spring.

I wanted to keep the front door, hardware and house numbers in its own category, because these define style in a major way. Front door color is like your lipstick, it plays a key role—because the color you choose, sets the mood for the exterior of the home. Are we going sophisticated or cheerful? If you are in the market to change your front door then some of these inspirational pics are for you! The house numbers and door hardware are just as important. The font shape of your digits and the design of the door also helps set the tone of your inner style. All these selections need to work well together so that you have a harmonious exterior design. This doesn’t mean that you can’t use modern style house numbers on a traditional home. You can mix it all up and still have a beautifully balanced design. Follow along as I show you some of the most popular colors to paint your front door and take note of the different font used in addition to the door style.

BLACK

First up, is the color black, because it sets a sophisticated setting no matter what the style of the home is. With a traditional front door, choosing a black color can help bring it back to a more modern/contemporary style. Especially if you choose modern house numbers with a vintage or industrial style lighting, as seen below.

Go big or go home is definitely what these home owners had in mind! Using words for numbers is another creative option to make a statement to your curb appeal. Notice the barn-like door, a brilliant way to bring in character.  Finishing it with black bronze hardware is a trick to play it down and let the door & the house numbers be the show.

BLUE

Blue is a very selective color and a bold statement on a front door—especially when used in its brighter hues. If this is the edge you are looking for then go for it all the way! Apply it in high gloss and against a white house and/or brick exterior to get this look. Adding colorful fruit trees with greens and yellows pairs exceptionally well.

TRADITIONAL

You can defiantly tone it down with navy blue which reflect a tailored look and feel. Just try to stay away from matching it with red, so you don’t look like an American flag. As pictured below: adding door hardware in an antique gold finish,  helps give your front porch a polished look without feeling dated.

RED

The infamous red door is a very popular color, because it’s just enough pop without over stimulating an entire area, and it always seem to be the house you want to be at! Classical, when used against white hues.

GRAY

“The new kid on the block,” and when I say new: I mean it’s been around for the last 10 years and has made it’s way to be another favorite for front doors. It’s subtle, soft with a dash of sophistication. Best when paired against soft hues of white to bright white.

GREEN

Green has been coming in strong these last couple of years, even making its way to our front doors! No wonder since it was 2017’s “Color of the Year” and this year’s runway fashion color. It’s stimulates growth, so the fact that this is reflecting the outdoors—makes it that much more interesting.

COUNTRY COTTAGE

Here is a good example how you can change the style of this front porch from country cottage to stylish cottage. Simply change to modern style house numbers (sans serif font), keep the mailbox for character, change the door hardware and finally add a textured planter pot to a more vibrant planter. Et voilà you have an updated front porch added to an already beautiful painted door.

PINK

Should I say more? Another color gaining popularity like firewood. This made it to the exterior faster than picking a café and ordering a croissant! Some of the most beautiful pink hues are paired well with crisp white exteriors that help keep its charm without looking juvenile.
